History of Foothills
Welcome to Foothills United Methodist Church and this overview of our outreaching ministries and missions. And thanks for visiting our web page!
Foothills United Methodist Church is a merger of three Methodist congregations of the twin cities of Johnstown/Gloversville, and is nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains north of the Mohawk River and West of the Hudson. With ministering histories spanning more than two centuries in the region from the days of horseback riding circuit preachers, the congregations bring together not only their collective history of weekly worship and a variety of educational opportunities but also active ministries to the surrounding communities through their food pantry, free clothing, a youth ministry of free coats for the homeless, hand crafted items for nursing homes, battered women’s shelters and regular visitation and holy communion for shut-ins.
Even though the congregation carries on their vital ministries through their present inner city location, they do indeed look to the day when they will fulfill their merger covenant with the completion of a new, highly efficient worship and ministry center, fully handicapped accessible and conveniently located on Rt. 30A on a main bus route near the new Wal-Mart site.
We invite you to become a part of these life giving ministries and walk with us on this spirit filled journey of life as we seek to be in love and support of one another and our community.
